A Call for Poems!
The Poetry Society of Vermont is happy to share the following message from PSOV member, poet/author & educator Sharon Darrow.

Dear friends and colleagues,
I am editing an anthology, Singing in the Dark: Poems of Protest and Witness 2025 to bring together poets’ voices reflecting on what has happened in America since Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025. I believe it’s important to gather our words and create an historical record of these days so that they aren’t forgotten or revised away. We have planned a launch in cooperation with Catamount Arts of St. Johnsbury, Vermont on or near January 20, 2026.
Please consider submitting a poem to me at si*********@********il.com. I will let you know if your poem is chosen as soon as I can after the deadline for submissions: October 1, 2025.
This idea was inspired by a workshop I gave last spring: Poetry of Protest and Witness. I heavily relied upon the anthology Against Forgetting: Twentieth Century Poetry of Witness edited by Carolyn Forché for poems as examples. In it she quotes this Bertholt Brecht’s poem:
Motto
In the dark times, will there also be singing?
Yes, there will be singing.
About the dark times.
I invite you to sing along with us in hopes of fighting against the dark and telling the tale to those who come after us.
