Submissions & Awards

Overview:

PSOV members currently have 13 opportunities to submit poems for possible publication in the PSOV journal The Mountain Troubadour, including: General Submissions (3 poems), Previously Published Poems (1 poem), Summer Contests (7 poems), Spring Contest (1 poem) and Fall Contest (1 poem.) In 2024, PSOV will be increasing the member publication possibilities with the addition of online poetry publications on the PSOV Website.

The Mountain Troubadour

Members are encouraged to submit poems each year to be considered for publication in The Mountain Troubadour. Please follow the submission guidelines on the TMT Awards & Submissions page.

Summer Contests

Members may submit poems to each of the seven summer contests. Please follow the Summer Contests & Summer Contests Submission Guidelines.

  •  CAROL AND ARNOLD ABELSON AWARD
    •  An historical event or place orcurrent political situation that fosters opposition,  controversy and/or social change, 40-line limit
  •  MARY MARGARET AUDETTE MEMORIAL AWARD 
    • Light or humorous verse, 32-line limit
  •  RICHARD BARRY MEMORIAL AWARD 
    • Vermont or country theme, 32-line limit
  • MARIAN GLEASON MEMORIAL AWARD
    • Any theme, 20-line limit
  • GOLDSTEIN MEMORIAL AWARD
    • Any theme, 40-line limit
  • LAURA J. SPOONER MEMORIAL AWARD
    •  Love poem, 40-line limit
  • CHRIS WHITE MEMORIAL AWARD 
    • Science, science fiction, or math theme, 25-line limit

Spring & Fall Workshops

The Spring & Fall Workshops are led by a guest poet who provides valuable feedback on member poems and guidance to the group on workshopping poems submitted. Prior to the workshop, members can submit one poem which is read and voted on by members. The top ten winning poems will be published in the next year’s publication of The Mountain Troubadour. Please note that you don’t have to attend the workshop to submit a poem for consideration in the contest, nor do you have to submit a poem to attend the workshop.

PSOV Online Poems 

Beginning in the spring of 2024 selected poems that were submitted to The Mountain Troubadour and not included in the print journal will be published in the Online Poetry section of the PSOV Website. The Editor of The Mountain Troubadour will select from the “Long Listed” poems for this online publication. The number of “Long Listed” poems will be determined by the Editor based on the quality of submissions and will have scored in the upper third of the General Submissions average scoring calculations, as scored by the PSOV Editorial Board. The final selection of PSOV Online Poems is at the discretion of the editor of The Mountain Troubadour. Once the final listing of PSOV Online Poems is made they shall be sent to the PSOV Web Manager for publication and notification to members.
