The Poetry Society of Vermont is privileged to welcome Betsy Sholl as our presenter for our 2026 Fall Workshop. A master of compassionate, intelligent, richly layered writing, Betsy will lead us in a generative workshop helping us tap our inner poetic potential and follow poetry paths we have not previously walked. In the afternoon, participants will workshop our own poems in small groups facilitated by with Betsy and members of the PSOV board.

Poet Laureate of Maine from 2006 to 2011, Betsy Sholl has received two Maine Writer’s Fellowships, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, the Maine Book Award and the 1991 AWP Prize for Poetry. She is a founding member of Alice James Books and has published ten poetry collections. Having taught poetry in venues ranging from elementary schools to prisons to MIT, and having a long association with the University of Southern Maine, she is presently on the MFA faculty of the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
