We are happy to share the following news from fellow PSOV member Terry Lovelette…
Hello poetry lovers! I’m a 67 year old native Vermonter whose feet have been planted in Franklin County all of my life. Among other things, spending time in nature is a passionate pursuit of mine. So is writing and photography. In my retirement years, I’ve been able to devote more time engaging in these activities. Combining what are enjoyable facets of my life into three published books with a fourth in process. Each written with a poetic spirit focused on nature, reverence, awe, life, and the human condition. As mentioned, I hike and write regularly. I also post some of my musings and photographs in social media.
Simply just to flesh out my truth while reminding myself, and others, that we live in a beautiful place. A reality that’s easily forgotten in the hectic pace of life. As it is, I openly share these posts in the hopes of inspiring folks to pause for a moment, recognize the beauty, and share some of their own thoughts about what resonates within. Something that I do frequently. It’s an action that I take which brings about gratitude and joy.
To that end, St. Albans Facebook Group Administrator, Mike Manahan, asked me if I could post a weekly reflection on Sunday’s to the St. Albans, Vt. Facebook Group. Thank you, Mike. I appreciate your request and respect your passionate desire to add to the common good. You are an inspiration! It’s my pleasure to try to help with some of the efforts that you spearhead. Thus I have pitched in to honor your request.
I call this post “A Sunday Pause” and postings have occurred weekly since mid-December 2025, accumulating over 60K views along the way. Hopefully these musings offer some inspiration, and when combined with the photos, provide some enjoyment. Perhaps we can continue to root for each other and find ways to stay inspired in our day-to-day lives. My weekly posts will be available to read on Sunday mornings throughout the year. Follow me on Facebook or join the St. Albans group to follow “A Sunday Pause”.
Here is a sampling of Terry’s writing in “A Sunday Pause…”
If all of this seems too difficult for you, then perhaps you could take a walk in the forest. Or maybe just lay on your back on a warm August night (if you’re my age, sit in a lawn chair) and let the long shoots of grass lead your eyes to the heavens and beyond. If neither of these options are possible, simply be kind and hospitable. If you do this you might see the profound strength of a wildflower, meet the aurora borealis and witness its timeless dance, or discover the beauty within a kind act that adds to the common good. A meaningful poetry exists there that offers a graceful truth.
What do you see on the forest floor
In the very heart of nature
Where the rhythm of creation rules
Amidst the complex pull of forces
Lives a world mysterious to manThe understory of the forest
Works the cycle of life
An achievement of order
Against all odds and its blithe abandonmentFaces of the seasons
Expressively subtle
Couched in normalcy
Quietly perfecting its craftWhen winds bring their change
When winter weeps another snow
And the flowers bend in sorrow
What do you see on the forest floorA transcendent flow of necessity
Is it a possibility
That right there, in a flower
One can find the meaning of life?
The Poet’s Concourse meets at 9:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at B’s Tiny Cafe on River Street. All are welcome. (article Milton Independent)
