Special Event
Nadine Budbill will be reading from her father’s new edition of Judevine: A Love Song for a Place and Its People (Rootstock Publishing.)
Through Nadine’s role as the Literary Executor of the David Budbill Literary Estate, she stewards her beloved late father’s body of work and creative legacy. In his lifetime (1940-2016), David Budbill authored eight books of poems, seven plays, two novels, a collection of short stories, a picture book for children, the libretto for an opera, and dozens of essays. He was posthumously named “The
People’s Poet of Vermont.”
In addition to this role, Nadine has made a long career in the nonprofit sector, having worked with myriad mission-driven organizations focused on gender and racial equity, social justice, and education (passions she inherited from her social-justice-minded father. Nadine grew up in Wolcott, surrounded by the hills, back roads, trees, and people that provided the inspiration for her father’s writing. She will be reading a selection of David’s timeless poetry, spanning from his prose-like poems about people and place in rural Vermont, to his simple-yet-poignant ancient Chinese-inspired poems.
Sunday Afternoon Poetry at the Jaquith monthly poetry readings are free and open to the public and held at the Jaquith Public Library, 122 School Street, Marshfield, Vermont.
