Troubadour Book Launch Party 2024

Troubadour Launch 2024

a reflection

On June 9, the Poetry Society of Vermont held its first-ever book launch to celebrate the publication of the 2024 Mountain Troubadour. More than 30 poetry-lovers–members and friends alike–joined us at Lawson’s Finest Liquids taproom in Waitsfield, VT to hear nine of this year’s published poets read their work and to toast the accomplishments of our many talented members.

With myself as new editor of the journal and almost all of the PSOV’s Executive Council being new this year, it’s been a learning and growing year for us all. We’re working out the kinks and are confident next year’s journal and launch will be even better/smoother. While we did not receive the grant we applied for that would have allowed us to pay for a private space for the launch, we did our best with the free venue, which was still open to the public. It’s a beautiful, welcoming space that accommodated our large, enthusiastic group, though may have been a little noisy and hard to hear for some. Next year, we hope to have the funds to reserve a private space for our second annual book launch.

It was a joy to put together this year’s journal and learn along the way. I very much enjoyed getting to put faces to names of so many poets whose work I had read over and over at the launch. I look forward to reading the 2025 submissions next year and continuing to engage with wonderful poets from all over Vermont and beyond. I hope to see many of you at our summer fest on August 10.

We’re still in the process of mailing copies of the journal to members, so, if you haven’t picked yours up yet, it’ll be in your mailbox soon!

With gratitude,

Erika Nichols-Frazer
