The Poetry Society of Vermont and the Jaquith Public Library are excited to announce Sunday Afternoon Poetry at the Jaquith. This monthly poetry reading series will feature two poets starting on January 25th, 2pm-4pm with poets, Scudder Parker and Judith Janoo. In addition to the Jaquith Library Staff, hosts for the Sunday afternoon poetry readings will be PSOV board members, David Hartnett and Elizabeth McCarthy.


Scudder Parker grew up on a family farm in Danville Vt. He has been a Protestant minister, a state senator, a utility regulator, a candidate for Governor, a consultant on energy efficiency and renewable energy and as he enters retirement, a poet. “Throughout my life I have found in poetry a place of reflection, investigation, and sometimes, healing…Now it feels that poetry is the lens through which I see and experience the world.” Scudder’s collection, The Poem of the World, 2025 and his first volume of poetry Safe as Lightning, 2020 are autobiographical. Judith Janoo is a long time member and contributing editor for the Poetry Society of Vermont. Judith is an award-winning poet, and Pushcart Prize nominee. Her poetry has appeared in journals including Pedestal Magazine, Fish Anthology, The Pierian, Euphony, Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, and The Bangalore Review, as well as her poetry collections; After Effects, (Finishing Line Press, 2019) and Just This, Kelsay Books, 2023.) Judith’s work is deeply informed by her life in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
Sunday Afternoon Poetry at the Jaquith monthly poetry readings are free and open to the public and held at the Jaquith Public Library, 122 School Street, Marshfield, Vermont.
