Long Listed Poems from the 2024 Mountain Troubador General Submissions

As the new editor of The Mountain Troubadour, I certainly had my work cut out for me selecting poems for this year’s print issue! We received so many strong submissions and unfortunately just didn’t have room to print them all, which is why, for the first time, we have decided to publish some of these poems online. With a print journal, there is limited space and we simply cannot include every deserving poem, so I wanted to share with you some of my favorites that, for one reason or another, didn’t quite fit this year’s print issue but are well worth reading nonetheless. A lot goes into selecting poems for a journal, including considerations for space, how many poems have been selected by a single author, themes and styles, and so on. I am pleased to share with you some of the Long Listed Poems, my favorites that ended up on the chopping block of the print journal, which is not necessarily a reflection of their quality.

One of my goals is to share more PSOV members’ voices and provide space for more poems, so we have added the online portion of the print journal that is integral to who we are as the PSOV. You can find the online poems by hovering over The Mountain Troubadour in the top menu of the website and clicking on Featured Poems and Long Listed Poems. You can also find online poems by clicking on the word Poems in the word cloud on the right column of the website. This should allow you to enjoy more poems by PSOV members and offer more opportunities to share your work. I am so grateful for everyone who submitted their poems this year!

Click on the titles below to read six of the 2024 Long Listed Poems. We will be posting six more Long Listed Poems next week.
