Emerging Poet

Join us as we congratulate Greer Kennedy, St. Johnsbury Academy for her winning poetry performance at the 2024 Vermont Poetry Out Loud Contest! In honor of this accomplishment, the Poetry Society of Vermont has awarded Greer Kennedy the Emerging Poet Membership, granting her full membership to our poetry society for 2024. Please welcome Greer Kennedy to our poetry society!

Greer Kennedy, a senior at St. Johnsbury Academy, enjoys classical music and nordic skiing. She’s played the viola her whole life, and has loved poems by Shell Silverstein for just as long. On rainy days, she likes to read a good book – or write poetry – with some hot cocoa and her cat. Greer’s favorite part of Poetry Out Loud has been getting to truly know other poets through the nuances and inflections in their delivery. Next year, she plans to study mathematics, play in her university’s orchestra, and of course, keep doing poetry.

Here is a video by Media Factory where you can watch Greer read her selected poems at the Poetry Out Loud Finals on March 14th at the Flynn Space.

  • Life Cycle of Common Man by Howard Nemerov
  • Dirge Without Music by Edna St. Vincent Millay
  • Mezzo Cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
