September 30th is the deadline to signup for the Poetry Society of Vermont’s October 14th Fall Workshop and to submit a poem for the Fall Workshop critique and contest. Your poem will be sent to all members who will vote for the top 5 poems, winners will be published in next year’s Mountain Troubadour. Please note that you don’t have to attend the workshop to submit a poem for consideration in the Fall poem contest, nor do you have to submit a poem to attend the Fall Workshop.

Throughout human history, poetry has provided stories about what people observe in the sky. Stars, planets, comets, the moon, and space travel are used as metaphors for our feelings of love, loneliness, adventurousness, and awe. Editor Midge Goldberg and contributors Robert Crawford and Martin Elster will read from the anthology “Outer Space: 100 Poems,” published by Cambridge University Press, which includes poets, astronomers, and scientists from the 12th century BCE to today, from all around the world.
$15-25 cash/check suggested donation goes to the instructor.
The Paper Poet, aka Bianca Amira Zanella, is launching a new workshop series and invites Vermont poets to an Autumn Poetry 6-week Workshop Zoom Series!
DESCRIPTION: Join The Paper Poet as we write within an intimate, brave community centered around the theme of living authentically with grace. We’ll explore the question: “How can you be your favorite self?” after Poet & Activist Gabriel Ramirez, who reminds us, “I don’t have to prove anyone wrong, I just gotta prove my ancestors right.” Each week we’ll gather with deep intention, open to the flow of the muse, read example pieces, write a poem, and share with vulnerability, feeling seen and heard. Please share with friends who wish to understand how poetry heals!

Judith Chalmer will join us as PSOV Workshop Guide. Judith Chalmer lives with her wife in Burlington, Vermont. Her poems have been published in anthologies and journals, most recently, Birchsong, Stone Canoe, Apex, Goblin Fruit and Quiddity. She is co-translator of 2 books of haiku and tanka with poet, Michiko Oishi, Deepening Snow (Plowboy Press, East Burke, VT 2012) and Red Fish Alphabet (Honami Syoten, Tokyo, 2008). Her first collection of poems, Out of History’s Junk Jar, was published in 2015 (Time Begin Books, St. Louis).

Poetry Society of Vermont member and contributing editor of The Mountain Troubadour, Judith Janoo is pleased to announce the launch of her second poetry collection, “Just This” published by Kelsay Books.
As a depicter of hardscrabble, northern Vermont, Judith Janoo is all but peerless. She is regional in the same sense that Frost-and so much compelling poetry-essentially is.

Join Poetry Society of Vermont member, Linda Quinlan on Saturday, September 16th at 11 am.
Linda Quinlan’s book of poetry Chelsea Creek was published by Brickhouse Press. She won the “Wicked Women’s” poetry award and was Poet of the Year in Wisconsin. She published in many journals some of which include Sinister Wisdom, New Orleans Review and Black Mountain Press. She cohosts a TV Show All Things LGBTQ and lives in Montpelier with her partner.
