FIRST CALL — SPRING LUNCHEON/WORKSHOP — SATURDAY, MAY 5, 2018

Swift House Inn, 25 Stewart Lane, Middlebury

We will be returning to one of our favorite places for the Annual PSOV Spring Luncheon and Workshop: The Swift House Inn in Middlebury—Saturday, May 5th 2018. Are you ready for tulips and daffodils and lilacs in full bloom—or at least ready to burst out?! The Swift House Inn is located two blocks north of the center of Middlebury, just off of Route 7. Detailed directions will be included in the Second Call.

Poet April Ossmann will be our PSOV Workshop Critic for the first time, recommended by Deanna Shapiro who attended one of April’s workshops and is impressed with the “Ossmann Method.” April, as a former executive director of Alice James Books, is a mine of information on how to best critique our own poems with the aim of getting them published! (More information coming in the Second Call about her method and her latest book, Event Boundaries—or visit her webpage: aprilossmann.com.)

Deanna will serve as Workshop Chair and the readers will be announced in the Second Call. Please let us know if you would like to be one of the readers—that is, one of the three members who read aloud each of the poems before the critic makes her remarks.

As usual, there will be a morning Council Meeting from 9:00 – 11:30; please join us if you wish and please contact any board member if you have concerns or ideas to share! The Luncheon will follow at noon, and the Workshop will run from about 1:00 to 3:30.

PLEASE SEND YOUR POEMS ASAP—DEADLINE IS MONDAY, APRIL 2nd

Send one poem, any style, any topic, but please limit your poem to 40 lines, including title and all breaks. Use Times New Roman 12, SINGLE SPACED. Try to keep the poem compact without long lines, for formatting in the Second Call. Email your poems pasted in body of email or as an attachment (see below).

DEADLINE FOR LUNCHEON RESERVATIONS IS SATURDAY, APRIL 21st

The buffet luncheon will include: chicken marsala, baked penne pasta with local cheeses, spinach, and tomato sauce; sautéed zucchini and carrots; green salad; coffee or tea; and flourless chocolate cake served with fresh whipped cream and berries.
